A palimpsest is an earlier writing or graphic that is scraped off of a parchment, but residues of which are later discovered to be rising up and reappearing. Across North and South America there is a deep, foundational landscape, over which conquest laid down its maps of property and Christianity. I am reckoning with palimpsest culture--the cohabitation of multiple cultural landscapes, some older and some younger, on this blog.

Let's arrive in Penang
Malaysia had beautiful mists in its mountains as we approached in the early morning. for this port we docked in the bay and dropped two of our lifeboats that "tendered" us to the dock.
